Pikes Peak Theraputic Riding Center

A Year In Review

Two thousand sixteen proved to be a trying year at PPTRC. We lost some long time staff and volunteers, and we faced financial struggle throughout the entire year. It seemed that every step forward was met with two steps backwards. Our staff, volunteers, board of directors, donors, and community teamed together to push on and work through the difficult times. We learned a lot in 2016, and I am proud to say that we ended the year in the black financially, and we have an incredible team of people and a strong support system going into 2017.

Even through the hard times, PPTRC helped 657 clients achieve their goals, gain independence, and grow through the power of the horse. We also started a Professional Development program, and we contracted with three new partner agencies for Equine Assisted Therapy. Our veteran and service member programs continue to grow, with approximately 50% of all PPTRC clients being veterans, service members, or their families. Our work is only made possible by the 166 volunteers who helped us all year and the $629,468 in donations that we received from individuals, businesses, and foundations.

Going into 2017, we are excited to see what we can do and how we can serve our community in new ways. We will continue to offer services at both Latigo and Norris-Penrose Event Center. We will maintain similar client numbers to 2016 and as always, we will be looking to all of you for continued support of what we do.

I can’t thank the people that supported us during this last year enough. Without the help of our community, PPTRC wouldn’t have been around to serve southern Colorado for the past 35 years. I am constantly amazed and surprised by the miracles that happen at PPTRC on a daily basis. The joy that I see on our clients’ faces is something that can’t be put into words. I couldn’t ask for a more rewarding career or a better support system. I honestly believe that anything is possible at PPTRC, and I am excited to see what the future hold for all of us.

If you haven’t done so already, go like us on Facebook, and keep an eye out for new and improved events during 2017.
